A Sister of Mercy for 70 Years, Musician, Teacher
Sister Cecilia Soreghan was born in Portland, OR, daughter of Frank and Rozella (Carberry) Soreghan. She attended elementary school at St. Agatha's in Portland, before her family moved to Ames, Iowa, where she then coincidentally attended St. Cecilia School. Sister Cecilia graduated from Ames High School in 1940. She entered the Sisters of Mercy Cedar Rapids Community in 1942. She attended Mount Mercy Junior College in Cedar Rapids and Loras College in Dubuque. Her love for music at an early age led her to receive both a bachelor's and master's degrees in music from the University of Iowa, resulting in a lifetime ministry in music.
